What is Allergic Contact Dermatitis?

Allergic contact dermatitis is an itchy rash that occurs from direct contact with something you are allergic to.

This allergic reaction can be caused by various substances such as cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry and plants. The rash can develop within minutes to hours of exposure and usually lasts two to four weeks.

Dr. Kingsley recommends patients start a list of any new products or food items that may have caused an allergic reaction. If patients are still unable to identify the cause, we will refer you to a dermatologist who specializes in patch testing to help better determine the cause.
