What is Eczema?

Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) is a condition that causes dry, itchy patches on the skin. Eczema may appear on the skin at any age but is most common in young children. This chronic condition is genetic and often triggered by irritating products and fragrances to the skin (detergents, fabric softener, lotions, soaps). Symptoms can range from mild irritation to severe skin infections.

Eczema Treatment

Treatment may start with switching out regularly-used self-care items. Dr. Kingsley recommends avoiding irritants and using gentle, fragrance-free products instead. Her favorites include Dr. Doug’s Miracle Balm and Charcoal Soap and Cetaphil eczema body wash and moisturizer. For more moderate to severe eczema, Dr. Kingsley prescribes topical, oral and injectable medications as well as light therapy.
