What is Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Commonly referred to as “dandruff,” seborrheic dermatitis causes itching and flaking of the skin. While most often located on the scalp, the condition can also affect the skin of the eyebrows, nose folds and chest.

Many people associate the condition with dry skin, but seborrheic is a result of oily skin and an over abundance of a naturally occurring yeast, which leads to itchy flaky skin.

Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment

The first treatment option for those struggling with seborrheic dermatitis is over-the-counter or prescription dandruff shampoos and lotions. Stress and illness can lead to more severe cases, which are treated with prescribed medication.
